New Fire Station Plans Aim for Improved Safety
Everest/Washington Township Fire Department is planning to replace its two outdated buildings used for storing equipment with a new fire station.
The current facilities, constructed in 1948 and 1989, lack essential features like adequate space, plumbing and heating, making it difficult for firefighters to respond quickly and efficiently.
The small buildings also make housing large equipment difficult because of short doors and structural issues. When rescue trucks have difficulties starting, firefighters are forced to manually move the trucks to make emergency equipment accessible. These limitations impact response times and put the community and responders at greater risk.
Private and corporate donations - including a Working Here Fund grant from Frontier Farm Credit – have played a key role in helping the department reach their project’s goal of $260,000.
The new station will help solve the current space and structural challenges, make responding to calls more efficient, provide a meeting room for fire and EMS training and offer proper restroom and shower facilities for firefighters.
