Frontier Farm Credit Scholarship Recipients Announced

Frontier Farm Credit has awarded ten college students $1,000 scholarships for the 2008-2009 academic year.

These scholarships were awarded to applicants who demonstrated contributions in school and/or community involvement and leadership, employment, and academic achievement.

Applicants were asked to write an essay identifying the opportunities rural communities of Kansas offer them and what needs to occur to keep them and other young adults in these communities. The recipients were chosen by judges not affiliated with Farm Credit.

Recipients of the scholarships must be customers or dependents of Frontier Farm Credit borrowers. They must also be enrolled as full-time students at an accredited public or private college or university.

Information regarding the 2009-2010 scholarship program will be available soon and applications will be due by March 31, 2009. Applications can be obtained from any Frontier Farm Credit office, at www.frontierfarmcredit.com, or by calling (877) 744-7144.

The 2008-2009 recipients are as follows:

  • Joel Erickson, son of Thomas & Julie Erickson, Clifton; Pittsburg State University, Automotive Technology
  • Brandon Ernzen, son of Thomas & Janice Ernzen, Lorena, Texas; Texas A & M, Civil Engineering
  • Julie Farrell, daughter of John & Cathy Farrell, Frankfort; Ft. Hays State University, Social Work & Spanish
  • Ashley Guenther, daughter of Eric & Brenda Guenther, Ottawa; KSU, Ag Economics, Ag Communications & Journalism, International Ag
